My mother tells me that I used to have a wall of fame, made up of the faces of actors and actresses cut out off magazines. I said names of those actors before I learnt to say the names of my relatives.
This was the earliest instance of me editing "reality"..
Like every teenager, who express themselves well through music and sports, I went through a music phase.
I would listen to music for hours on end.
I wrote the odd song.
I got fascinated with the music industry top sales charts.
I started creating imaginary bands, drew record sleeves for them, made them go on tours, and made their songs race up then fall down the imaginary charts.
That was the first instance where I invented new (but imaginary) realities..
During my stay in the UK I took fashion design as a courseThe work included illustration, design and implementation (making up the garments).
Design and illustration were my favourite..
The lecturer told us that fashion design and illustration is about expression and flair.
Drawing was an option.
That was shocking but true.
During the course we were advised to keep an ideas book.
That was when I started “collecting” inspiration.
I studied Business Administration.
I work as a designer and marketing guy (not guru YET)!
People mistake designers for artists..
An artist would draw to please himself..
Whereas a designer is a problem solver, he or she would work for a brief.. to solve a specific problem.
A designer can resort to “art” as a tool to solve a problem, but it is an option not a necessity.
I love the modern-day computer..
It is not an ordinary tool.. it lets me express myself however I wish..
I sort my photos, my music and my videos..
I edit them; from minor touching up to major messing up with worlds and characters.
What goes on in my mind as I edit?
What am I looking at/ listening to/ reading?.
What is wrong with the design or layout of what I am looking at?
Can it be better, how could it be better?
