Chauffeurs - A Sudanese in the UAE

Why do chauffeurs want to impress on people that they are more than just chauffeurs?
I think being a chauffeur is being in an important role.
He is the person who drives the top managers to their work, to their meetings and to places that matter. Otherwise that manager would have to drive him or herself and not concentrate on doing business.
On one of my trips to the United Arab Emirates I stumbled upon such a chauffeur.
He met me at the airport, and once we were alone in the car he informed me that he is not a chauffeur but a Public relations officer.
He went on and on about how the organization chart did not include the PR job and that he is biding his time before being employed in his proper capacity.
Man I just boarded a plane, and I came from Sudan. That means nobody is allowed to torture me for at least 4 hours from arrival.
Why did I feel that such a presentation had ulterior motives?
It turned out that I was right.
Mr. PR guy was the personal driver, not a company driver. Do you know the difference?
A personal driver is the guy who drives the Mrs. and her family, not the boss.
He was ambitious though, and maybe he thought I might put in a good word for him with the boss.
I couldn’t.
I have to admit: when he chauffeured my family and I, he was good.
But he annoyed me by telling his boss’ wife about whatever we did and wherever we went.
Ouch.
I started dodging him. It wasn’t easy.
To lure me back he started calling and promising that he would introduce me to investors.
I passed.
