YouTube

I have to make a confession. I have been watching lots of YouTube lately.
You may remember me talking about my obsession of music and how I wish to collect most of the songs I like from my youth till today.
Buying music on the internet is not easy, I have a credit card but since I am in Sudan it is just a piece of useless plastic.
I download music from peer to peer networks but I stopped since I did not find a network for people as old as I am .. Young.. I mean young.
So I went to search on YouTube.. and guess what ?
I found videos from old artists, young artists etc.. I love it..
I found some of the songs I was searching for and more.. So I am officially on a journey of rediscovery.
I am reacquainting myself with the White Duke, David Bowie.. all over again.. and Queen and Olivia Newton John.. plus Rihanna, Nelly Furtado and many new guys and gals.
I was young when I saw the videos of the former batch.. when I watched them again recently I discovered that political correctness really made artists mellow.
Has anyone seen or heard Physical by Olivia Newton John, it was a massive hit in the beginning of the 1980’s. The video is filled with hunky gym guys. She would not be able to show such a video nowadays, it is just raunchy. The lyrics should also carry a warning. But there is something that Olivia and her generation did well, they flirted with everybody. The camera, their fellow actors, everybody.. that is why they got away with murder.
They were not as cool as today artists because they smiled a lot and were slightly corny, their songs were unashamedly popy and pleasant. You can even hum the whole song..
Maybe all new artists need to go to YouTube and dig those old videos from time to time. They will learn a lot.. they will learn that artists with pleasant personalities last more than the common 2 years.. and that smiling is great, and that being clothed with a certain glint in the eye and flirting are incredible..
